| 9. The paradiddle!( R L R R L R L L ) The paradiddle makes for a great exercise to use around a drumset. One thing I recommend is to practice accenting the paradiddle on every different beat. Use your bass drum to help. SEE VIDEO! Speak it while you play it. PAR a di dle PAR a di dle . Next par A di dle par A di dle. Next par a DI dle par a DI dle. After you get used to accenting the different beats of the paradiddle, try it with your bass drum staying on the first beat and your hands accenting one of the other beats. |
| 10. The ratamacue! This is one of my favorite rudiments. I like to play it as a triplet instead of a drag rudiment. The sticking for a single ratamacue is the same as a double paradiddle. R l r L r r L r l R l l only with an accent on every third stroke instead of straight time. After you get the feel of the rudiment you can practice changing the beat on which gets the accent. In the VIDEO I play the accents on the tom toms. The second VIDEO has the double ratamacue. R l r L r r L r r L r l R l l R l l . All the ratamacues have a 4 stroke ruff which turns around the accent to the other hand. |

Especially one hand on the snare, and one hand on the hi-hat or ride cymbal. Keep the bass drum and hi-hat steady on the 1 and 3 and let the fun begin! See VIDEO! |
| 12. This is another one of my favorite beats. Playing this one takes a little dis- coordination practice. I'll start it out playing a triplet with bass drum on the accent and the left hand plays the double ghostnote triplet all the way through. Right hand on the cymbal with the bass drum. R l l R l l R l l. Then you turn the bass drum into the shuffle while keeping the left hand the same. So far its not to bad , but now, turn the right hand into a shuffle, hitting snare on occasions.
